A 36-year-old man died after being hit by a vehicle early Sunday, Oct. 12, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

Officers arrived to Renton and Watkins roads about 2 a.m. to find a vehicle had struck a pedestrian and was unoccupied at the scene. LifeCare Ambulance and the Battle Creek Fire Department provided medical assistance, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Battle Creek Police Department’s Road Patrol and Detective Bureau investigated the incident.

A 29-year-old man alleged to have been the driver was located that afternoon and is being held at the Calhoun County Jail, according to the police department. He faces a charge of hit-and-run causing death and is awaiting arraignment.
