President Donald Trump is set to posthumously award conservative activist Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom today at the White House on what would have been Kirk's 32nd birthday.

Trump had previously announced on Sept. 11 that he would award Kirk the Medal of Freedom. That announcement came one day after the founder of Turning Point USA was fatally shot on a Utah campus. The president has not officially awarded the Medal of Freedom to anyone yet in his second term, though he had previously said he would give one to political ally and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

"I'm pleased to announce that I will soon be awarding Charlie Kirk posthumously the Presidential Medal of Freedom," Trump said last month.
