GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Two Wyoming police officers will not face criminal charges after they shot an armed man during a domestic disturbance.
“Quite frankly, I think (the officers) should be commended for how they handled this situation,” Becker told reporters.
The incident unraveled around 1 a.m. on Sept. 16 when officers responded to a report of an unwanted man at a home on Lemyra Street SE.
Officers were told the man – identified by police as 31-year-old Luis Hernan Fernandez Sandoval – violated a protective order and may have fired a gun inside the residence.
Once police reached the scene, they found Sandoval inside the residence holding a handgun. Two officers shot Sandoval, who died at the scene.
Although Sandoval was hit twice by officers’ gunfire, he died from a self-inflicted gun
