MASSILLON, Ohio (WJW) -- A Jackson Township police officer fired a single shot while responding to a domestic violence call on Monday evening.

Police responded to a report of a domestic violence incident just before 8 p.m. to the 8000 block of Parkford Street Northwest, according to a Tuesday news release from Police Chief Mark Brink.

Officers encountered a man, identified as John Joseph Boda, 33, brandishing a firearm, according to the release. He refused to comply with officers' commands.

"The suspect's movements coupled with his non-compliance [led] officers to believe that violence was imminent," Brink wrote. "In response to this threat, a responding officer discharged a firearm."

No one was injured by the gunshot. The officer who fired the shot has not been named.
