The Tulsa Fire Department held its 30th annual Firefighters Memorial this past weekend, honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to the city.

Tulsa Fire Chief Michael Baker spoke with LeAnne Taylor and said the memorial provides an opportunity to recognize both active and retired firefighters.

"It is an opportunity for us to honor those members," Baker said. "Either active on the fire department or retired, and mostly it's the retired firefighters. It's an opportunity to honor their memory, their family, and their service to the city of Tulsa, the community. It's not a long event. It's fairly short, but really just gets everybody together to say, we appreciate your service and your work."
