A child under the age of 10 was killed Tuesday morning after a vehicle struck her while she was riding her bicycle.

The Kansas City Police Department responded to Longview Road and Food Lane around 7:19 a.m. on reports of a critical injury crash. Advertisement

Preliminary investigation showed that a Ford Transit van was traveling north on Food Lane when it turned onto Longview at the intersection.

A young girl was riding her bicycle in a marked crosswalk with a green signal. Police said the van hit the girl, causing her to fall.

She was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police are still investigating the crash.
