Ian Freebairn-Smith, the Grammy-winning composer and singer whose voice was featured in the iconic theme from “M* A* S*H,” has died at 93.
His daughter, Jenifer Freebairn-Smith, announced in an Instagram post that he died on Oct. 7 in Folsom, California, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
“My dad’s long, healthy, music-filled life has come to a peaceful close,” she wrote. “Heartbroken, I am also glad that he is at rest after Alzheimer’s.”
Jenifer Freebairn-Smith celebrated her father’s extensive career, noting he “leaves behind a treasure of compositions and orchestrations, and the sound of his oh-so-mellifluous singing and speaking voice, out in the airwaves, on albums, and in our hearts and minds.”
