COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WSMV) - Officials in Maury County provided an update Tuesday afternoon and revealed the likely cause for the train derailment in Columbia.
Chief Chris Cummins of Columbia Fire & Rescue released the following information:
The train derailment occurred at about 11:33 a.m.
First responders arrived shortly after.
One propane tanker is involved with no leaks.
No injuries reported and everyone is accounted for.
The immediate surrounding area was evacuated in a timely fashion.
Trotwood Avenue only roadway remaining closed at this time.
Crews will work over the next 12 hours to mitigate the scene.
Main concern is the propane tank, as the other train cars involved were empty.
Initial reports indicate that a switching rail might have malfunctioned and caused the derailment
