Hamilton police say they have completed their investigation into a fiery crash on the Claremont Access in June that killed both the driver and passenger.
Speeding and impaired driving were both factors in the June 22 crash, detectives from the collision reconstruction unit found.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. at the top of the access after a southbound Chevrolet left the road and hit a stone wall near Southam Park. The vehicle became engulfed in flames and the female driver and male passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash was among a significant spike in impaired driving crashes this spring and summer, including three fatal drunk-driving collisions in which six people died.
