PORT NECHES, Texas — Longtime Port Neches Mayor Glenn Johnson, who led the city for nearly 23 years and guided it through hurricanes, industrial disasters, and major development projects, has died, Judge Jeff Branick confirmed to 12News.

Johnson became mayor in November 2002 following the death of then-mayor Francis Monk. Before taking on the city’s top role, he served as a city council member. He was also deeply involved in civic and business life, serving as chairman of the board for 5Point Credit Union and previously for the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Melancon Levingston Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements, which are currently are pending.
