CARROLL, Iowa (KTIV) - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating an accidental release of manure into a Carroll County creek Monday afternoon.
The DNR says it was notified Monday evening of the spill, which happened when a hose on a machine applying that manure to a farm field northeast of Carroll blew out.
5,000 gallons of manure was spilled. The company applying the manure took immediate action to contain it by placing dams in several locations on a nearby creek, and working to pump manure out of the creek.
The DNR says those cleanup efforts, including pumping from the creek and removal of affected soil as needed, will continue.
So far, no dead fish have been seen in the creek.
The DNR says it will determine if any enforcement action is warranted for this incident.
