MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -As the oldest school district in Dane County, buildings in the Madison Metropolitan school district need facility upgrades.

Last year, voters passed a $507M referendum to pay for renovations at 10 schools across the district.

According to MMSD the average Madison home will see a $27 impact on their monthly tax bill for the next 23 years.

“I’m really excited for my kids and our community to have a brand-new building,” said Megan Slempkes-Brace, a mom of two at Black Hawk middle and Gompers elementary school.

Her kids’ school is part of the first phase of MMSD’s referendum plan, and will be receiving a rebuild.
