HELENA — Hailey Hayes is one goal from setting the Helena High single-season record and the Bengals are in first place in the Western AA after 12 matches.

That was the result of the girls crosstown soccer match on Tuesday at Carroll College's Nelson Stadium.

Hayes, who came into the game with 18 goals, scored one in the first half for HHS (9-2-1) before adding another, an insurance goal in the second half, as Helena High beat its crostown rival Capital, 2-0, snapping a three-match losing streak. It was the Bengals' first crosstown win since 2023.

"It feels good," Hayes said. "All of us working together really made a difference."
