A Coatbridge 999 hoax caller has been warned his behaviour could put lives at risk.

Steven Smith, 36, appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Friday, October 10. He admitted wasting police time by making a series of false emergency calls on June 29 and 30.

Jack Lindsay, prosecuting, said Smith called 999 to report an emergency but didn't say what it was, reports Lanarkshire Live .

Mr Lindsay told the court: "It appears he was highly intoxicated. He made another nine emergency calls that day."

Police officers finally went to his house the following day after Smith had again dialled 999.

Once again he failed to provide details of the supposed emergency.
