A Lanarkshire car wash boss whose firm hired illegal workers has been banned from running businesses after failing to pay a fine.

The former boss of Superhand Car Was Express, Ali Ahmadi, 52, was banned from acting as a director for five years after failing to cough up a £90,000 penalty following a Home Office investigation into the Wishaw business.

Ahmadi's ban comes just weeks after data showed that firms across Scotland were fined more than £1m after being raided by the UK's Immigration, Compliance and Enforcement (ICE) team.

Eighteen premises in Scotland were fined after illegal workers were discovered, with raids carried out in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Fife, the Daily Record reports .
