The City of Hamilton is asking residents to protect themselves against respiratory illnesses this flu season.
In a news release, the city said it expects a jump in cases of respiratory illness, as people spend more time indoors due to colder weather and recommends a "multi-layered approach to prevention."
According to the city, those layers include:
Getting vaccinated against influenza, COVID-19 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) if eligible. All three are safe to get at the same time.
Staying home when sick to avoid further spread of illnesses.
Washing hands often and covering mouth when coughing or sneezing.
Wearing a “tight-fitting, well-constructed” mask in public indoor spaces.
Cleaning surfaces that are touched often, regularly.
Avoiding spending time in crowded rooms.
