After facing backlash from boaters , the U.S. Coast Guard is paring down a plan to remove dozens of navigational buoys from New England waters.

Originally, the Coast Guard planned to discontinue nearly three dozen buoys in Rhode Island. Now, around 20 are on the chopping block.

The Coast Guard said that it received more than 3,000 public comments from boaters in the region. Originally, it planned to discontinue around 350 buoys around New England, but it now only plans to remove 233.

Which RI buoys are now being targeted for removal?

The buoys that are still being targeted for removal as part of the Coastal Buoy Modernization Proposal can be viewed on an interactive online map published by the Coast Guard, and includes the following buoys in Rhode Island:
