In the eyes of head coach Tanner Riley, the Wood River Wolverines girls soccer team is peaking at the right time.

“We’ve reached our peak with our game,” she said. “Now, we need to focus on mental toughness to push through and persevere.”

The Wolverines showed that mental toughness across the board in their 5-0 victory over the Jerome Tigers in Idaho Class 5A Great Basin Conference district tournament semifinal action Monday at Founders Soccer Field in Hailey.

It was not without a tough moment for Wood River, however.

With the Wolverines leading 3-0 in the 36th minute, senior Claire Buchwalter sustained a left leg injury as she went for the ball. Buchwalter stayed down and was accompanied by Riley and medical staff as she was carted off the field.
