A 36-year-old man has been charged with killing a 34-year-old man found slain at a southwest Edmonton home last February, hours after gunshots rang out in the neighbourhood.

Officers were called around 6 p.m. to the Queen Alexandra area near 106 Street and 74 Avenue on Feb. 26, 2024, after multiple reports of gunshots in the area were reported, said a Tuesday news release.

An initial search failed to turn up anything suspicious, police said. But officers were called back around 11:20 p.m. after receiving a report that a body had been found inside a home.

When police and paramedics arrived, they found the body of Ozan Budak, 34. A Feb. 29, 2024, autopsy confirmed Budak died of gunshot wounds.

Homicide detectives took over the case and a man has since been arrested.
