YORK, S.C. (WBTV) - A natural gas leak shut down a busy road in York County on Wednesday afternoon, according to police .
The leak was reported around noon on Wednesday, Oct. 15, along West Liberty Street near Fleetwood Drive in York.
Officers blocked off the roadway and urged travelers to avoid the area “until further notice” as crews worked to assess the damage.
Customers in the area were warned that gas service interruptions could occur during repairs.
Around 1:15 p.m., natural gas crews confirmed that the area had been secured and that the gas line was damaged during a construction project.
Authorities said they coordinated with the school district to ensure students and that all bus routes were safe. There was no threat to any school.
