LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences reported that its milk bank is being “quickly replenished.”

Officials said that nearly 200 mothers signed up as donors when the call was made on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the hospital was able to purchase milk from milk banks in other states, they added.

Officials expressed gratitude to the mothers who stepped up to assist the hospital in its mission.

UAMS hosts the only milk bank in Arkansas.

The emergency arose when the freezer used to store the milk failed over the weekend, followed by the failure of backup and alert systems. Staff arriving on Monday determined that, to be cautious, the milk stored had to be discarded.

Other mothers interested in being donors can call 501-686-5355 or email milkbank@uams.ed
