PORTLAND, Ore. — U.S. District Court Judge Karin Immergut decided Wednesday to extend her temporary restraining order that blocked National Guard troops from being deployed to Portland by another two weeks.
Since June, the Trump administration has been federalizing and deploying National Guard troops in Democratic-led cities such as Los Angeles, California and Chicago, Illinois. Initially, Trump planned to send 200 Oregon National Guard troops to Portland in response to protests around the city's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility.
Earlier this October, Immergut issued a temporary restraining order that blocked the administration's plan. It was set to expire on Friday, Oct. 18, but will now persist for another 14 days. She also set an "expedited" trial date for Oct.
