KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 70-year-old Lee's Summit man was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after being hit by a dump truck.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened around 8:15 a.m. near Ranson Road and Hook Lane while the victim was riding his bicycle.

The bicyclist was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery, police said. His current condition is unknown at this time.

The sheriff's office said the driver of the dump truck, a 47-year-old Kansas City man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
