KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced that her office has filed a lawsuit in federal court to stop a referendum seeking to repeal the state's new congressional map, which was signed into law in September.

Attorney General Hanaway filed a lawsuit to block efforts by Richard von Glahn and the organization People Not Politicians to repeal the newly enacted congressional redistricting plan.

She claims the referendum violates both the U.S. Constitution and the Missouri Constitution.

"The Constitution entrusts congressional redistricting to the people's elected legislature, not to activist organizations," Attorney General Hanaway said. "If allowed to proceed, this effort would destroy faith in our elections and set a dangerous precedent where outside interes
