ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Local leaders and residents of St. Martin Parish held a meeting at the Catahoula multipurpose building to discuss a new management plan aimed at protecting the Atchafalaya Basin from sediment build-up and preserving its flood capacity.

The plan seeks to prevent sedimentation that threatens the basin's flood capacity, which is crucial for protecting surrounding communities from flooding.
Wilson says he hopes the proposal will be approved.
