A Louisville police officer who fatally struck a car while speeding to a call without her lights and siren has resigned from the department, officials announced Oct. 15.
Alyssa Begel, who had been on administrative leave since April, stepped down while serving a 30-day suspension imposed by Chief Paul Humphrey, the department said in a statement.
Charles Briscoe, 61, was killed April 2 when his vehicle turned in front of Begel’s police cruiser in the 3900 block of Fern Valley Road just south of Newburg. Investigators determined Begel was traveling 95 mph in a 45-mph zone, according to media reports.
A toxicology report obtained by WDRB showed Briscoe’s blood alcohol level was 0.173, nearly twice the legal limit.
