BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - East Baton Rouge Parish taxpayers are responsible for a mounting legal bill to defend former Baton Rouge Police Officer Troy Lawrence Jr., who faces multiple lawsuits stemming from alleged misconduct during his time with the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Lawrence’s attorney tells the WAFB I-TEAM he is aware of at least eight different cases against the former officer he’s working on.

The Metro Council will decide soon whether to approve additional funding for Lawrence’s defense, with legal costs already reaching more than $100,000 paid for by East Baton Rouge Parish citizens.
