GLOCESTER, R.I. (WPRI) — A local man had his hunting privileges suspended after an investigation into illegal poaching by the Rhode Island Environmental Police that lasted nearly a year, according to a post on social media from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM).

The DEM said environmental police first began investigating after an officer found a tree stand, a game camera and a large pile of corn in the woods. Feeding or baiting wildlife is prohibited in Rhode Island.

As a result of the investigation, a Burrillville resident was arrested when he was found "actively hunting over bait." The DEM said a search revealed he had also illegally killed a deer in Glocester.
