OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - New tonight, Omaha’s land bank announced it’s taken over 1,562 residential properties since it was established a decade ago.

It’s estimated that in the past decade, the land bank has helped generate $83.5 million in economic impact.

The land bank takes over abandoned and neglected tax-delinquent properties, whose titles are often tied up.

People working for the land bank then clear those titles, waive some fees for buyers, and do upkeep on the lots until someone buys them for a discounted price.

One woman who bought lots from the land bank is using them to breathe new life into her neighborhood.

The land bank favored her as a buyer because she’s local and planned to build homes to sell, as opposed to rent out.
