BELLEVIEW, Fla. (WCJB) - Belleview residents say the old cemetery can be an eyesore due to the fallen or sunken tombstones, some of which date back to before the Civil War.

Brenda Barnett has lived behind the cemetery for more than a decade and believes the dead deserve the respect of a nice tombstone.

“When you live this close to a cemetery, you want it to look nice. You don’t want to have to look into your backyard and see tombstones that are falling. I mean, that’s disrespectful,” Banrett.

Barnett says she has even seen kids sneaking in and vandalizing some tombstones.

So, she knew these improvements would make the cemetery look better overall.
