MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Animals at the Roosevelt Park Zoo have a new veterinarian caring for them.

The zoo welcomed Kelly Mahoney in late July.

She takes over veterinarian duties from Dr. Logan Wood so he can focus on his role as zoo director.

Mahoney is originally from Pennsylvania and loved caring for animals at a young age.

This is her first time serving as the main vet for a zoo, and the opportunity at the Roosevelt Park Zoo brought her to the Magic City.

She said her job has many aspects, but maintaining animal health is a priority.

“Making sure everyone looks healthy, there’s no injuries or illnesses that I’m noticing, making sure that they’re interacting with their environment appropriately,” said Mahoney.
