A Hamilton woman is calling for stricter laws around the use of electric bikes after her four-year-old son was seriously injured in a hit and run by one of the two-wheelers last week.
Melissa Debicki said her son, Theo, suffered a fractured skull, concussion and possible spinal injuries when an e-bike crashed into him outside a child-care centre at Collegiate Elementary School just before 5 p.m., on Oct. 10. He returned home Monday after three nights in hospital.
“It’s going to be a long road to recovery,” Debicki added during a call Wednesday. She noted Theo, now in a neck brace, will be reassessed by a neurologist later this week. “The injuries are going to have an impact on him for the foreseeable future.”
