RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Cities and counties in central North Carolina are among the recipients of $6 million in grants intended to help reduce flood risks, Gov. Josh Stein said Thursday.
According to the governor's office, the $6 million is provided by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality's North Carolina Flood Resiliency Blueprint. It will be used towards 11 projects selected by the Division of Water Resources in the Cape Fear, French Broad, Neuse, Tar-Pamlico, and Lumber river basins.
The Town of Apex was given the largest individual grant at $1.4 million for a project at the Cape Fear River basin. The project involves restoring approximately four-tenths of a mile of stream channel, planting streambank vegetation, and adding five acre-feet of floodplain water storage a
