DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A man is facing felony charges after assaulting two nurses while receiving medical care at Essentia’s St. Mary’s Medical Center.

According to the Duluth Police Department, officers responded to a report of an assault at the Essentia Health Emergency Room around 3 a.m.

Two female nurses suffered minor injuries after allegedly being assaulted by the male patient. Staff were able to restrain the man while waiting for officers.

The man was placed on a mental health hold and, once released, will be lodged at the County Jail for two counts of Fourth Degree Felony Assaults.

“Supporting our team members while ensuring their right to privacy is our top priority. No person should ever be assaulted while doing their job,” said Essentia spokespeople.
