A Plain City man is mourning the loss of his grandfather, while his grandmother remains hospitalized from what he thinks may have been a propane explosion and fire that destroyed the couple's home in Madison County.

Around 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, neighbors in the 9000 block of Pringle Benjamin Road in Fairfield Township reported hearing a loud "boom."

George Schwartz was killed in the explosion and fire, while his wife, Betty, escaped but was hospitalized with severe burn injuries, their grandson, 33-year-old Trevor Rose, told The Dispatch. The couple is in their mid-70s, he said.

A passerby was also injured trying to help the couple escape, Rose said.
