LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln woman lost $5,800 after scammers tricked her into believing she missed jury duty.

The 29-year-old woman told Lincoln Police officers she received a call Tuesday afternoon from a man claiming to work for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. The man reportedly said she missed jury duty and had a warrant out for her arrest.

The woman was told she needed to pay $5,800 to resolve the issue, but to not come in person or she would be detained.

LPD said the scammers also spoofed LSO’s nonemergency line and left an empty voicemail from that number.

The victim said she spoke with three people, and one identified himself as “Lt. Eric Hamilton.” She was reportedly told to withdraw the money from her bank and deposit it into a Bitcoin ATM in three separate account
