OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — The Oak Ridge Police Department said a man accused of assaulting his mother is now facing a murder charge after she died from her injuries.

Jacob Paul Yugo, 34, of Oak Ridge, is charged with first-degree murder , aggravated assault and tampering with evidence. He was previously charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Around 4 p.m. on Oct. 10, officers responded to a report of an assault in the area of East Newkirk Lane in Oak Ridge, according to ORPD.

Officers located the victim, Candace Yugo, suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to a report. Candace was transported to an area hospital. She died from her injuries on the evening of Oct. 15.

Jacob is currently being held at the Anderson County Detention Facility.
