MONTEVALLO, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The University of Montevallo is planning to sell almost 200 acres of land, after reports of financial pressures from rising costs and aging infrastructure.
While the university plans to part ways with it, school leaders say their mission remains the same.
“Students are still getting a high-quality education and seeing very little impact from it,” said Deanna Smith, who serves as chief financial officer.
The University of Montevallo has agreed to sell 183 acres to the Shelby County Commission.
A university spokesperson tells WBRC the property is between Highway 10 and Highway 204, and was previously a golf course. It currently contains a mountain bike trail, storage space, and a lake.
The land is expected to go for around $1.3 million.
