BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Cleophus Riles Jr. says fitness has been part of his life since he was a kid. But after suffering a stroke last summer, staying active has become part of his recovery, and he says the condition of the Birmingham Fitness Center North is making that harder.

“I was jogging around Legion Field and City Walk and eventually became dehydrated,” Riles said. “I had neuropathy, nerve damage in my legs, and eventually it culminated with a stroke.”

Since then, the 80-year-old has been learning to walk again. He says it would be easier if he could use the gym less than six minutes from his home, but with several treadmills and weight machines broken, he’s been exercising in his living room instead.
