SEARCY COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A 13-year-old boy died Saturday after a fall near Brewer Bluff, a scenic overlook within Buffalo National River in north-central Arkansas.
Emergency crews were called to the area around 11 a.m. on Oct. 18 after reports that the teen had fallen. He had been hiking with a friend when he lost his footing, according to park officials.
Rescue teams from Buffalo National River, along with the Marshall and Harrison fire departments and Survival Flight, were among those dispatched to the scene.
Harrison firefighters rappelled roughly 260 feet down the bluff as park rangers came in from the river below. The boy was found unresponsive.
