When Amy Morrell turned 50, she texted a personal goal to a friend, an aspiration she planned to draw on while caring for students at the Swansea school where she worked.

Meadowridge Academy is a therapeutic residential school for young people with mental heath and behavioral issues , and Morrell was determined to do her best by them.

“Something about turning 50 but I feel like there’s only so much time left in life and I wanna live it right!” Morrell wrote her friend. “Being kind to other people definitely makes me feel better about myself. My job is helping kids with troubles so it’s pretty rewarding.”

Morrell was working at the school Wednesday night when a 14-year-old girl attacked her, kicking her in the chest, authorities said.
