LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Louisville Democratic Party announced its nominee on Sunday for the upcoming Kentucky State Senate special election.

According to a statement by the party, the nominating committee unanimously selected Gary Clemons for the vacant 37th Senate District seat.

The seat was left open after David Yates was named Jefferson County Clerk by Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg.

The LDP shared in its statement that Clemons is a lifelong resident of Louisville’s South End, graduated from Valley High School, is a U.S. Army veteran, and is the President of United Steelworkers Local 1963, which represents more than 200 American Synthetic Rubber Company workers.
