BAR HARBOR, Maine (WABI) - A grandmother from Florida raced to Bar Harbor to take another step towards the finish line of a lifetime goal.
Meet Gloria Vasquez, a 74-year-old woman with the goal of a century: race 100 marathons before she turns 100.
She competed in Sunday’s Mount Desert Island Marathon, making it her 96th race so far.
Gloria began racing shorty after immigrating from Colombia in 1981.
She’s since run the New York City Marathon 15 times, and the Boston Marathon four times, even running as a torch bearer for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
Gloria then set - and beat - the goal of racing in all 50 states before turning 60.
Her next goal was then intended to be a marathon on all seven continents, but when COVID disrupted her plans to run in Antarctica, she changed cours
