Police have confirmed a man has died after being hit by a train at a level crossing.

The incident happened at Canterbury West railway station on Saturday, which saw the St Dunstan’s Level Crossing blocked for hours as emergency services attended.

Four police vehicles and two fire engines were involved at its peak, with it since confirmed the victim died at the scene after being struck at about 2.20pm.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers responded with paramedics; however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”

He is believed to be a man in his 50s.

The spokesperson added: “The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
