NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man was sentenced to one year in jail for killing and dismembering a bulldog in New Rochelle last year, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.

Benjamin Tyler, 40, pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals during a June court appearance.

Prosecutors said he strangled an English bulldog owned by his friend, whom he was living with at the time, on Dec. 6.

Tyler then dismembered the dog, named Bruno, and tossed various parts of his body around New Rochelle, according to prosecutors.

“The defendant will have a year in jail to think about his despicable actions. Cruelty to animals is unacceptable,” District Attorney Susan Cacace said in a statement.
