Opponents of the Village of Ridgewood’s plan to install an artificial turf field at the historic Zabriskie-Schedler farmhouse have filed a lawsuit to stop the project from moving forward.

Plaintiffs Linda Marticek and Vincent Marticek live next door to the 7-acre site on Route 17, which the village wants to develop into a multipurpose field for baseball, football, soccer and lacrosse.

In their lawsuit, the Marticeks ask the judge to vacate the conditional approval of the project granted by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection on Aug. 27.

In the short term, the plaintiffs are seeking an injunction that would bar Ridgewood from doing any work on the property until the litigation is resolved. Ridgewood began removing trees on Oct. 8, the lawsuit said.
