OMAHA, Neb. —

The Omaha Streetcar Authority met Monday to discuss the progress of the project.

Officials said the actual rail construction is set for January and is on schedule.

But, as of right now, the city is still signing off on the final contracts for design and oversight.

On Monday, officials approved an additional $21 million in costs, but the Public Works Department said these costs were anticipated.

"We would typically see this in other projects as well. You go through the design phase, and then there's a follow-on contract much smaller a few percent of what the original cost was," Michael True with the Omaha Public Works Department said.

Streetcar construction is scheduled to wrap up in 2028.
