HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet now says the Owensboro Blue Bridge will not be able to safely reopen to traffic until January of 2026.

According to a release, the contractor repairing the Glover Cary Bridge said the construction is progressing on the rehabilitation project, steel fabrication and the timely ordering of materials lead to the adjusted schedule. The contractor has now set a new January 16 bridge reopening date, with additional work to continue once the bridge reopens to traffic.

The extended closure will reportedly ensure crews can complete long-term concrete maintenance and steel joint repairs that will help reserve the bridge's structural integrity and keep it safe to maintain traffic service.
