FALL RIVER, Mass. —
Fall River fire chief Jeffrey Bacon released a recommendation Monday, asking that all assisted living homes, day cares, group homes and similar facilities in Massachusetts should have the same stricter fire code protection as nursing homes.
The recommendation comes as part of Bacon's after-action report on his department's response to the July 13 fire at Gabriel House that killed 10 residents.
Steve Sabra, who represents three survivors and some of the victims' families, said that his clients agree with Bacon.
"They're hoping this will result in the legislature looking at this kind of facility and maybe making some changes," Sabra said.
He said Bacon's report echoes many of the issues his clients have been telling him about for months, such as the lack of fire
