Inbound flights to San Diego International Airport were delayed Tuesday morning due to dense fog at the coast.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay at about 8 a.m. affecting flights into the airport. The advisory was issued until 1 p.m. but would be lifted as conditions improve.

Flights destined for San Diego's airport were taking off on average 30 minutes later than usual, the FAA said. Flights departing San Diego were using an east flow pattern, taking off inland instead of their usual westbound flight path.

According to the unofficial flight tracking website FlightAware , about 38 flights were delayed and one was canceled at SAN by 8:20 a.m.

The National Weather Service had not issued any weather alerts for San Diego.
